Growing up!

Jax will be 10 weeks tomorrow and I swear the time keeps going faster and faster. I was looking at pictures from the day that he was born, and I cannot believe how much he has grown. He is now 23.5 inches long and weighs just over 11 lbs. Funnily, his height and weight are in the 40-45th percentile but his head is in the 60th percentile! He is talking (coos), laughing, and smiling all the time which makes for such a fun time. We are trying to soak up every minute of time we spend with him, as everyone keeps telling me (and I'm beginning to realize) that it all just goes by way too fast.

Suddenly Salt Lake

Jax has been sick lately, and we have spent a significant amount of time the past few weeks doing some testing up at Primary Children's Hospital up in Salt Lake. Last week they thought Jax may have a condition called pyloric stenosis, which is when the valve (pyloris) at the bottom of your stomach does not open properly, therefore not allowing food to pass from the stomach into the duodenum. The only solution for this condition is surgery. They were "80% sure" that he had the condition, based off of his symptoms and the measurements that they got of his pyloris during an ultrasound. I requested another ultrasound and sure enough, they were able to establish that he doesn't need surgery afterall. Phew!

We ended up getting a phone call from our pediatrician again this morning asking us to drive up for yet another test. After dealing with a few finicky cars, we finally made our way up to Salt Lake. Jax did so great during the testing... the doctor made him drink Barium so that they could watch it travel through his digestive tract and pinpoint any abnormalities that may exist. Although it was disgusting, Jax did a great job getting enough down so that they didn't have to pump it into his stomach through a tube. (I'll be honest... I think the trick of dipping the bottle's nipple in strawberry syrup probably had something to do with Jax not minding too terribly that he had to suck it down!).

After that test was done, they had to look at... the other end of the digestive tract. For this test, they had to pump a contrast fluid in through his rectum up

into his intestines to make sure that everything was working properly on that end. I couldn't believe what a total CHAMP Jaxon was! Eli even made him laugh while they were pumping in the fluid!

After that adventure (and after finding that there are no major complications at this time... Thank goodness!), we decided to take Jax to Temple Square for the first time. It was so nice walking around, talking to the missionaries, and taking pictures. We were able to see the new Joseph Smith movie, and it was absolutely phenomenal. (Highly recommended!!) It was a great ending to a difficult day.

His exercise

Also, here's another clip of Jax on his safari play mat. He gets quite a workout kicking those legs! His favorite animal to look at is the lion!

Cooin' and Ooohin'

Jax is in a really fun stage where he loves to get his diaper changed. As soon as you lay him down on the changing table he livens up... kicking and "talking"... we love it!

Here's a quick video of it... sorry it's so dark. I'll get a better one and put it up soon!

Smiles and Coos...

Jax is 8 weeks old now, and we have had the best time watching him smile and listening to him coo! Apparently he has quite a bit to say, and he isn't shy in carrying on a conversation with anyone who will listen!

This picture caught the tail end of a quick smile... I'll post a better one when I can catch it! I never seem to have my camera ready when he is really putting on a show :)

Sweet Southern Comfort

We had the opportunity to fly home to Georgia for the past couple of weeks to bless Jax in our home ward. Eli was only able stay for a week, but Jax and I figured we would take advantage of the opportunity and stay for a while! We have been here for about ten days and we leave on Saturday. There is something to be said for coming home... I love the familiarity and the relaxation that comes from being in my home town. It is wonderful to have the opportunity to share with all of our family friends our new little boy! He certainly is loved!

I will have to post pictures later of the blessing and all of the fun...
